Pet-safe plant checker

Type a plant's name to see whether it is toxic to cats or dogs, according to the ASPCA's plant list.

Common names, other names and scientific names all work.

Questions

Where does the toxicity information come from?

Every plant's cat and dog status is taken from its entry in the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center's toxic and non-toxic plant list, and each result links to that entry.

Does non-toxic mean my pet can eat it?

No. The ASPCA notes that eating any plant material can cause vomiting and stomach upset in cats and dogs. Non-toxic means the plant is not expected to cause serious poisoning.

What should I do if my pet ate a toxic plant?

Call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at (888) 426-4435 (24/7, a consultation fee may apply). Have the plant's name ready.

Why is my plant not in the checker?

We only list plants we have checked against the ASPCA list and extension-service light advice. For anything else, search the full ASPCA list directly.
